VIRGIN GALACTIC ANNOUNCES ‘GALACTIC 01’ CREW ONBOARD THE FIRST COMMERCIAL SPACEFLIGHT

Virgin Galactic, the aerospace company founded by Sir Richard Branson, has announced with great excitement its first commercial space flight, an event that marks the beginning of a new space era.

The flight, called ‘Galactic 01’, is scheduled for June 29th, 2023 and represents a significant step towards democratizing access to space, with the goal of inviting everyone to participate in this extraordinary journey.

The flight will be conducted with the crew of the Italian Air Force and the National Research Council, who will be responsible for conducting scientific research experiments. This international collaboration underlines the importance of combining skills and resources from all over the world to achieve common goals and advance in the understanding of space.

Among the crew members, the figure of Walter Villadei stands out. His participation in this enterprise represents a great honor not only for him personally, but also for Italy, which can boast a representative in this historic mission. With his experience and expertise, Villadei will certainly contribute to the success of the mission and the realization of the planned scientific experiments.

Proud to announce the establishment of the innovative start-up Spaceglass, a spin-off sponsored by the University of Parma.
Spaceglass aims to design and build more performing and lighter glazing for aerospace use. There is growing interest in the creation of large glass surfaces to be built on low-orbit stations, also in view of their use for space tourism. A paradigmatic example is represented by the Axiom Earth Observatory (Axeo) of the future commercial space station to be built by Axiom Space (www.axiomspace.com), whose operation in orbit is expected by 2030. Stained glass windows that can be used in other infrastructures, such as lunar bases. The design of an innovative solution is part of the growing market of the New Space Economy. Large windows are of particular effect in the promotion of space tourism. The technological transfer of composite technical solutions in the industrial field (automotive market, hypercar in particular, aeronautical market, naval market, especially luxury yachts) and more generally in the architectural field (special glass, shatterproof, bulletproof and explosion-proof) is important.
Spaceglass sees the exceptional participation of professors from the University of Parma and the University of Calabria. The team is composed of: Gianni Royer-Carfagni Carfagni, President and CEO; Giancarlo Buccarella, Vice President and legal advisor; Alessandro Tasora, responsible for modeling and experimentation in relevant environment and product industrialization; Laura Galuppi, Head of Transparent Composite Development. Giovanni Garcea, Leonardo Leonetti, Domenico Magisano of Unical, will coordinate the numerical modeling; Alessio Grasso with Kelvin273 (www.kelvin273.it), is responsible for commercial relations and strategic advisory.
